I ignore non-solicited and generic spam messages, but feel warmth and eagerness to respond when I receive honest expressions of intellectual interest and kinship. Even if I don’t respond immediately, if you write a message of that sort my experience has been that we will end up meeting and chatting about ideas at some point. The world is small and strange! Sort of - this website is in a sense an extended offer of friendship, and if our minds are kin then I assume we’ll meet at some point, but you could speed that up by saying hi <3.

Outside of my organizational work, I have an obsessive, almost delusional compulsion to understand the question ‘Why did biology make so many things, and why are they always talking to each other?’ (for an example of my trying to think this through in a very amateur way, please see the bacteria bionumbers page on this site). If you have an answer or know someone who does, I would be infinitely grateful if you could let me know!
